About the film

Robert Schwentke took over directing duties for Insurgent, released March 20, 2015. The film restructures much of the book’s plot around a series of simulation “sims” Tris must complete to unlock the box left by the city’s founders — a significant departure from the novel’s structure.

Insurgent was also the franchise’s first film released in 3D/IMAX formats, and it out-grossed the original at the global box office.
